Severe Weather
Watch – indicates a particular weather hazard is possible
Warning – indicates a particular weather hazard is imminent or has been reported
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
- Monitor weather status
- Avoid being outdoors, especially near trees and water, during a lightning storm.
- Seek shelter indoors, under shelter or in a hard-topped vehicle until the storm passes.
- Limit the use of metal objects, including tools, sporting apparatus, metal fencing, etc., until the storm passes.
- Avoid congregating in large groups as lightning passes between people.
TORNADOES 
- Monitor weather status. The City of Raleigh does not have any weather warning sirens
- If you are notified a tornado is approaching:
- move to an interior hallway on the lowest level.
- stay away from the windows,
- sit or kneel on the floor against the wall
- put your hands placed on your head.
- leave the area once the all-clear signal is given .
- If you are outside, seek shelter in a nearby building or find a ditch or depression in which you can hide your head.
- After a tornado, beware of broken glass, unstable structures and debris.
