NC State’s Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment provides noncredit short courses, study trips, special events, and extracurricular activities for adults aged 50+. Topics are wide-ranging in the liberal arts and sciences, and the emphasis is on learning for the joy of learning. Courses generally meet once a week for six weeks and last 90 minutes. Homework is optional, and there are no tests or grades. Encore is a unit of the McKimmon Center for Extension & Continuing Education, and most of the courses are offered at the Center. Over 1000 adults in the Triangle participate in Encore each year, and the ages range from 50-90+. Encore also offers social events and study trips and hosts an active book group, movie group, and writers group.
Interested in taking credit courses at NC State? Adults over age 65 may receive a tuition waiver when they enroll in credit courses (on a space-available basis). Contact the Office of Registration and Records for more information.
