NCSU Energy Management - About Us
The Office of Energy Management identifies and implements practical ways to save utilities (electricity, natural gas, oil, and water) and reduce operating costs at NCSU. Our long term objective has been modified in conjunction with legislation passed in 2008, and we now seek to reduce energy consumption by 20% over our baseline* by the year 2010 and 30% by 2015. In addition we endevor to decrease water usage by 30% over our baseline year by 2010. Energy and water are controllable expenses. The management of these resources is a responsibility of the staff, faculty and students at each facility, guided and supported by the Office of Energy Management.
We work to achieve this goal by following the Strategic Energy and Water Plan. The plan includes work in the following five focus areas:
- Energy Data Management - Measuring how much energy is used by campus and buildings
- Energy Supply Management - Purchasing and efficiently producing energy provided to campus buildings
- Energy Use in Facilities - Evaluating how effectively energy is used in a building
- Energy Efficiency - Procuring equipment and appliances that are state of the art
- Campus Integration - Working to promote energy awareness with faculty, students, and staff
*Baseline year is 2002-2003 for energy data, and 2001-2002 for water data.
