NCSU Energy Management -

NC State University purchases electricity, gas, oil, and water from companies such as Progress Energy, PSNC Energy, and the City of Raleigh.

Electricity is purchased and NC State employees maintain the distribution lines through Main Campus, Centennial Campus, and the Centennial Biomedical Campus (Vet School). There are currently no electric generation facilities on campus.

There are five central thermal plants on campus which produce steam and chilled water. The steam and chilled water is distributed to campus buildings for building heating and air conditioning.

  • Yarbrough Plant - Main Campus (North)
  • Cates Plant - Main Campus (Central and West)
  • West Chiller - Main Campus (West)
  • Central Utility Plant - Centennial
  • CBC Plant - Centennial Biomedical Campus (Vet School)
As campus continues to grow and we add new buildings, these facilities are upgraded to meet increased campus energy demand.
