Energy Use In Facilities

We examine how effectively energy and water are used in buildings on campus. This is done through walking through the facilities and identifying the primary systems which consume energy or water. This may be referred to as a Building Audit.

Also, buildings are ranked according to their consumption per building area to recognize which are the largest energy and water users. The type of building is also considered here, since intensive laboratory spaces consume more energy and water than classroom areas.

For new buildings, guidelines for equipment (such as lighting and motors) are updated periodically and provided to the University Architect's office. Also, new building designs are reviewed for energy and water conservation.
