NCSU Energy Management - Water Management
The Office of Energy Management identifies and implements practical ways to save water and reduce operating costs at NCSU. Our long term objective is to reduce energy and water consumption by 20% over our baseline. Energy and water are controllable expenses. The management of these resources is a responsibility of the staff, faculty and students at each facility, guided and supported by the Office of Energy Management.
Recognizing that North Carolina State University is experiencing significant growth in facilities and utilization rates, NC State has established a Commitment to reduce the Annual Energy Consumption per Square Foot, adjusted for weather, by a minimum of 4% over a 10 year period. We will also reduce Annual Water Consumption Per Gross Square Foot by a minimum of 10% over the baseline year 2001-2002.
We work to achieve this goal by following the Strategic Energy and Water Plan. The plan includes work in the following five focus areas:
- Water Data Management - Measuring how much energy is used by campus and buildings
- Water Supply Management - Purchasing and efficiently producing energy provided to campus buildings
- Water Use in Facilities - Evaluating how effectively energy is used in a building
- Water Efficiency - Procuring equipment and appliances that are state of the art
- Campus Integration - Working to promote water awareness and conservation with faculty, students, and staff
