Tips to Save Energy on Campus
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Turn off the coffee maker, TV, radio, computer, etc when you are finished.
- Set the thermostat to 76ºF in summer 70ºF in winter. AVOID using space heaters.
- Use power save options on your computer rather than screen savers.
- Task lighting - replace all incandescent light bulbs with a Compact Fluorescent (CFL).
- Look for the most energy efficient appliances and electronics. EPA Energy Star website is http://www.energystar.gov/.
- Close windows and doors to outside while building is heated and air-conditioned.
- While shaving or brushing your teeth do not leave water running.
- Close fume hoods in laboratories when not in use.
- Wash clothes in cold water.
- Walk, bike, carpool or use public transportation whenever possible.
- Report any leaks or problems to your building liason, or concerns to save_energy@ncsu.edu.
