Program Format & CurriculumThe Institute takes place each year from September through May. Participants complete EOI Orientation, during which they design an individual educational plan and set goals for completing the Institute requirements. Supervisors of participants are required to attend the first hour of EOI Orientation. The content of the Institute consists of three required modules and seven electives. The choice of electives is based on articulated goals developed by the participants with the assistance of a professional staff member from the Office for Institutional Equity & Diversity. The Diversity Awareness Profile (DAP), an assessment instrument designed to assess and increase self-awareness about discriminatory behaviors and attitudes, is used in developing each participant's goals and educational plan. The Equal Opportunity Institute is designed as a one-year program and follows a plan that is developed by the participant, the immediate supervisor (for employees), and professional staff in OIED. If you have concerns about completing the program in one year, but you would still like to participate, please contact Beverly Jones Williams, Program Coordinator (919-513-3836).
