FAQs for the General Public
Yes! While the Institute was originally designed for members of the NC State campus community, this program is of value to employees who work in industry, other state agencies, or other businesses in the Triangle region. We believe that the information presented in the Institute is readily transferable to other employment and educational settings. To date, employees from IBM, Rex Healthcare, Bowe, Bell+Howell, the NC Office of State Personnel, the NC Department of Health and Human Services, and other UNC institutions have graduated from the program.
Individuals from the general public who wish to participate in the Institute must submit the EOI Application Form. You may apply online, or print and fax, mail, or drop off your forms at our office.
Participants who are not enrolled students or employed by NC State must pay a $500 fee to participate in the Institute. These funds help to defray our costs for materials, honoraria for workshop facilitators, Continuing Education Unit fees, and other costs associated with running the Institute. Please make your check payable to “NC State University” and indicate “EOI” on the memo line. We do not accept credit cards or other forms of payment.
Cancellations prior to December 14, 2012 will be refunded $100. There are no refunds after this date. For those who don't wish to cancel but can't finish the Institute requirements during the academic year, we will attempt to make arrangements for you to complete the requirements during the following academic year. These decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. If you have concerns about completing the program in one year, but you would still like to participate, please contact Beverly Jones Williams, program coordinator (919-513-3836).
All workshops will be available to all Institute participants, including those from the general public.
Both. Some workshops are offered more than once during the academic year, and there are usually offerings available in the morning, afternoon, and evening. A list of available workshops will be distributed during EOI Orientation, and updates will be provided as additional workshops are scheduled throughout the academic year.
Yes. We will arrange for parking for non-NC State participants who are registered for daytime workshops. No parking permits are required on campus after 5:00 pm except for reserved and handicapped accessible spaces. See the campus map for building locations and the directions for coming to campus.
