Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Committee
Introduction
The
establishment of the NC State Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA) Advisory Committee is to ensure input from a variety of
students, faculty and administrative organizations, and units.
The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the ADA Coordinator
regarding the needs of persons with disabilities.

State Access Announce List Serve
A
new list serve, the NC State
Access Announce List Serve is now available. This list
provides email annoucements related to disability access to
NC State subscribers.
- ADA
Hotline - Now Available
A
new email address, ADAHotline@ncsu.edu,
is now available. This email address is used by the Office
for Equal Opportunity to receive requests, comments, reports,
and information from the public about disability and/or accessibility
issues related to NC State facilities, programs, services,
and benefits so that we can respond to them as mandated by
the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you would like to
report an issue, we encourage you to use this email address.
Charge
to the Committee
The
charge of the ADA Advisory Committee is to:
-
advise the ADA Coordinator regarding activities that would heighten
disability awareness and sensitivity issues on campus;
- make
recommendations regarding development and implementation of
policies and procedures in the area of services to students
and employees with disabilities;
-
advise the ADA Coordinator and other university offices related
to disability services in addressing the needs and concerns
of students and employees with disabilities;
-
make recommendations to the ADA Coordinator on how to best provide
input from campus on concerns and issues related to architectural
and existing facility barriers.
Selection
of Members
Each
unit listed in the Committee Membership section above is asked
to submit the name of one person designated to serve on the committee.
A
person shall represent the committee from the following areas:

Transportation

Terms
of Service
Members
of the committee from the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, Student
Government and SODA are asked to serve for a period of two years.
The remaining units are asked to make appointments for three years.
At the end of service, appointments may be renewed or new appointments
made.
Responsibilities
The
responsibilities of the members of the ADA Advisory Committee
are:

to meet on a quarterly basis or as convened to advise the ADA
Coordinator;
-
report on activities of their respective area relevant to the
purpose of the committee;
-
identify grant opportunities;
-
stimulate grant proposals;
-
keep current with issues related to providing services with
persons with disabilities;
-
increase awareness on campus of the needs of persons with disabilities
and activities of the committee.
