Disability Compliance Advisory Team

The Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity has reorganized its disability compliance functions into one unit. Effective October 1, 2005, the office formerly known as Disability Services for Students (DSS) became the Disability Services Office (DSO). With its expanded focus, the Disability Services Office still provides disability services for students but now also facilitates effective reasonable accommodations for faculty and staff; educates the campus community; and promotes equal access and opportunity. Since both the ADA Advisory Committee and the Disability Services for Students Advisory Team had accessibility at the core of their mission, the DSO has now combined the two and meet as one group known as the Disability Compliance Advisory Team (DCAT). As currently outlined, this team will meet once a semester.

The Disability Compliance Advisory Team (DCAT) is composed of representatives from the NC State community as well as distinguished citizens outside the university who are qualified on the basis of achievement and experience. The DCAT does not have any legal authority since the office operates under specific federal laws but serves in an advisory capacity to the office with the following as possible responsibilities:

The DSO is committed to a process where new understandings and learnings will develop and support for creative and effective practices will evolve. The specific tasks to be undertaken by the DCAT will unfold as the members meet once each semester and work to define the new responsibilities beyond the numerous ones in which the staff is now engaged.
