Undergraduate Degree Programs
NC State offers 13 undergraduate degree options in environmental sciences and natural resources (ESNR). These degree programs typically combine courses from a number of colleges to provide a thorough interdisciplinary grounding in the fundamentals of your major, a better overall understanding of the interrelated nature of environmental issues, and a deeper mastery of the issues affecting your chosen area of concentration. All degree options offer you opportunities to pursue original research and gain field experience tackling real-world challenges — leaving you well prepared to take advantage of career opportunities once you graduate.
Step 1: Choose A Major
NCSU offers undergraduate majors in either Environmental Sciences or Natural Resources. Regardless of which major you choose, you will also select from one of several specialty concentrations to ensure a specific focal point, skill set, and sense of academic identity.
In addition to becoming proficient in your area of concentration, if you choose to pursue an Environmental Sciences degree, you will learn about environmental issues, basic earth system processes, and how social sciences connect to environmental policy.
If you choose to pursue a Natural Resources degree, you will learn about the importance of natural resources, including those on land, the coasts and oceans, and the atmosphere. You will also learn approaches to sound resource management and become proficient in your chosen area of concentration.
