Architectural design as it relates to culture, history and place; the aesthetics of everyday life and of the ordinary; typology and related theoretical frameworks in architecture; history of building types; the social basis of architectural expression and interpretation; intersubjectivity in architecture; social phenomenology, particularly the work of Alfred Schutz, in relation to architectural theory; vernacular architecture of the world; architecture as a collective expression and as a product of cultural evolution over time; contemporary architects whose work reflects local vernacular traditions.
