Institute for Transportation and Research Education (ITRE)
The Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) is a university-based institute committed to leadership in the study of surface transportation issues through:
- fostering analytical thinking
- integrating technology in education and research
- serving as a catalyst for problem solving
- cultivating professionals and students dedicated to excellence in transportation.
North Carolina Cooperative Extension
North Carolina Cooperative Extension centers -- located in all 100 counties and on the Cherokee Reservation -- are community resources, serving as the front door to the vast knowledge base of N.C. State and N.C. A&T State universities. Cooperative Extension helps build quality communities by training adult and youth volunteers to become community leaders, providing educational programs to stimulate community economic development, working in partnership with other agencies to help citizens prepare for and recover from disasters -- and more.
North Carolina Language and Life Program
The North Carolina Language and Life Project is an umbrella organization for carrying out research and educational programs in representative speech communities in North Carolina and elsewhere.
North Carolina Sea Grant Extension Program
North Carolina Sea Grant's coastal communities programs explore how tourism and development can be balanced with traditional uses. Sea Grant's social science research includes a variety of topics, including the economic and societal impacts of hurricanes, outbreaks such as Pfiesteria and the variety of changes that accompany demographic shifts.
Recreation Resources Service
Provides technical support to local units of government responsible for planning and managing recreation facilities and programs. The Recreation Resources Service (RRS) is a partnership between the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at NC State University. RRS staff located both in Raleigh and regionally assist local units of government plan and deliver recreation services across the state. Examples of technical services include:
- assisting with establishing new departments
- organizing and training advisory boards
- training in benefits-based programming
- consultation and professional training in playground safety
- assistance with preparation of grant applications
- workshops on various topics.
