Bilingual Education: Training for All Teachers
This project provides teacher training and support for those teachers within the State of North Carolina seeking English as a Second Language licensure.
Capital Area Writing Project
Designed for teachers across disciplines and grade levels, the Capital Area Writing Project (CAWP) provides an intensive summer forum for sharing practical classroom strategies for using writing as a learning tool and for enhancing composing ability. Sessions for the Institute will be held 5 days a week, 8:30 a. m.to 3:30 p. m. Activities include:
- writing of all kinds, from journals to position papers
- presentations by Institute faculty and qualified consultants
- demonstrations of effective teaching strategies
- peer group responding and editing
- professional reading
- weekly social activities.
Continuing & Professional Education (CPE)
CPE offers quality continuing education opportunities in a flexible, comfortable and affordable environment. CPE operates on a fee for services basis depending on rental and registration fees to cover the majority of costs of doing business.
Credit Programs and Summer Sessions (CP&SS)
Credit Programs and Summer Sessions serves as the contact point for individuals who wish to enroll in on-campus and Distance Education credit courses, as well as Summer Sessions course offerings, without formally applying for admission to NC State. Services provided include
- registration assistance;
- advising consultation by phone, e-mail, and in person;
- math
Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment
Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment provides a variety of noncredit short courses, lectures, special events, and study trips for adults age 50 and up. Over 70 programs are presented each year, and previously videotaped courses are also available.
Girls On Track
Girls on Track (GoT) is a summer camp for high achieving middle school girls (grades 6-8). Its purpose is to increase their interest in math-related careers by engaging them in computer-based mathematical explorations of urban problems in their communities. It is a joint project between North Carolina State University (Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education and Department of Computer Science), Meredith College, Wake County Public Schools and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Kenan Fellows for Curriculum and Leadership Development
The Kenan Fellows Program is an innovative model to promote teacher leadership, address teacher retention and advance K-12 science, technology and mathematics education. Kenan Fellows are public school teachers selected through a competitive process to participate in a prestigious two-year fellowship - all while remaining active in the classroom. During these two years, Kenan Fellows work in partnership with distinguished scientists, university faculty and the NC Department of Public Instruction, developing curriculum and teaching resources that bring cutting-edge research into the hands of students.
MEGA: Middle Educators Global Activities
The focus of MEGA is to provide teachers greater opportunities to improve their technology skills and focus on specific content areas in addition to interdisciplinary projects specific to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Though founded with a focus on middle grades, MEGA has expanded its scope, and we welcome and encourage K-12 teachers to participate. Free membership includes listserv, Web site and workshops.
NC-MSEN Pre-College Program
The NC-MSEN PreCollege Program enrolls 450 middle grades and high school students in year-round enrichment activities. The mission of this program is to keep underrepresented students on a college-bound track leading to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
North Carolina Cooperative Extension
Through 4-H, more than 187,000 young people in North Carolina learn new skills and serve their communities each year. 4-H offers clubs, special interest programs, summer camps, school enrichment and after-school child care. Guided by North Carolina Cooperative Extension educators and adult and teen volunteers, 4-H'ers gain knowledge, skills and experience that help them become responsible citizens and leaders.
NC Japan Center
Conduct K-12 teacher training workshops on teaching about Japan and East Asia, maintain and circulate library of print, video, and artifact educational resource collection, conduct school visits, host visits by classes, develop educational materials: Living in 21st Century Japan; Japan-North Carolina Connections. Offer non-credit Japanese language classes.

The Office of School Services in the College of Education operates as a clearinghouse for Web-based and other educational technology projects. Online Tools for Schools provides an entry to our Internet-based materials for K-16 education.

Educator's Development (SUCCEED)
SUCCEED resources are based on theory and research principles, called the Integrated Learning Framework, described in all the materials. SUCCEED resources can be applied across the career span and across disciplines to prepare:
- Mentors for beginning educators
- Instructional leaders in schools
- Supervisors of preservice educators
- Peer coaches for experienced educators
SCI-LINK
An innovative project linking scientists, teachers and students, SCI-LINK is a model project for translating the results of current scientific research into teaching content and practices. It offers workshops in air and water quality topics including acid rain, ozone, carbon dioxide, global warming and global environmental change.
The Science House
The Science House is NC State's statewide K-12 science and mathematics outreach program. The mission of The Science House is to increase student enthusiasm for science by partnering with K-12 teachers to emphasize hands-on inquiry-based learning. The Science House offers teacher professional development programs, student science activities, and science teaching materials. Science House offices are in Asheville, Lenoir, Fayetteville, Raleigh, Jacksonville and Edenton.
Shelton Leadership Challenge Institute
The Shelton Leadership Challenge Institute is offered to rising ninth through twelfth grade youth with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The program is an intense 5 ½ day experience for youth who are current leaders and aspire to be greater leaders in the future. Youth will explore areas of values-based leadership focusing on Leadership Roles and Accountability, Team Building, Leadership Styles and Situations, Motivating Others, Citizen Responsibility, Integrity as a Leader, Public Speaking, Changing Behaviors, and Goal Setting. Reflection is a key component for each exercise and daily review. Students are placed in leadership roles and participate in a 360° evaluation conducted by the Coach, Mentor, Trainers (CMTs) and Peer Leaders.
