What is the application process for Shelton Leadership Challenge Institute?
- All applications are currently available on our website.
- Three options for submitting an application.
- First option: We now have our application available for youth to complete and submit the application on-line. The application will be emailed directly to our office for processing. If you select this option, please download the "reference pdf mail-in" that is located beside the "submit on-line pdf". Send the pdf to your references or mail a copy to your references. References and deposit will need to be mailed in separately. Students applying for the second year course (Take II) are asked only to provide reference names and contact information at this time;
- Second option: The application can be saved to hard drive, completed and printed to be sent in through the mail to our office. References and deposit may be sent in with the application. Or, references may be sent separately;
- Third option: If you prefer our office to mail an application to you through the mail service, please contact us at debbie_reno@ncsu.edu or 919-513-0148.
- We encourage the youth to complete the application and distribute the two reference forms to individuals who have an understanding of the applicant's skills and abilities. Again, the reference forms may be sent separately from the application. Students applying for the second year course (Take II) are asked only to provide reference names and contact information at this time.
- There is a $100 deposit due with the application that is deducted from the $425 amount due prior to the institute.
- Once our office receives the application and references, we will process the application within two weeks of that date. The applicant will receive an initial letter of acceptance and initial information to return to our office. We will continue to communicate with the student up to the institute with additional information.
- NOTE: Our review process takes into consideration the applicant's answers to the questions asked in the application, what the applicant hopes to gain from the experience, and what the applicant hopes to take back to the community. We also take into consideration grade point average.
- Applying for financial assistance: If an applicant has also completed a financial form to receive a scholarship to attend the institute, we will notify the applicant of acceptance into the program, as well as provide a status on financial support. In place of the $100 deposit requested with the application, we ask that the applicant send a $50 administrative fee. If the applicant is not awarded a scholarship to attend the institute, the $50 will go toward the total $425 due prior to the institute. The number of scholarships available vary each year.
