Students will participate in activities that will help them have a greater understanding for: Public Speaking; Personal Assessment and Group Dynamics; Role of Values and Ethics; Approaches to Leadership; Teambuilding and Empowering Others; Civic and Social Responsibility; and Goal Setting.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in team building activities, low and high ropes courses, service project, and fun night activities to help students get to know others participating in the program.
We help teams process what took place within team activities.
Participants are youth going into the 9th-12th grades (graduating seniors are also eligible) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with previous leadership experience in clubs or other organizations. The Shelton Challenge is an important program thrust of the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center that also includes leadership scholarships and executive forums. This is a residential program, meaning that we require participants to reside on-site for the week.

Shelton Challenge (TAKE II) (click link for more details...)
The Shelton Challenge (TAKE II) is offered to youth who have graduated from the Shelton Challenge program. The course focuses on building upon the first year core functions -- honesty, integrity, diversity, compassion and social responsibility -- increasing the level of leadership responsibility incorporating conflict resolution, time management, decision-making and project management. Core leadership principles are addressed in the activities to help students discover their current style of leadership and their hidden leadership abilities. Reflection is a key component for each exercise and daily review. Students are placed in leadership roles and participate in a 360° evaluation conducted by the Coach, Mentor, Trainers (CMTs) and Peer Leaders. Participants are youth going into 9th-12th grades with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with previous leadership experience in clubs or other organizations. Beginning 2011, this course will be a pre-requisite to apply to serve as a Peer Leader for the Shelton Challenge first year experience. This is a residential program, meaning that we require participants to reside on-site for the week.
