Shelton Leadership Challenge Institutes
The General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center provides two leadership institutes in North Carolina each year for youth who aspire to develop him or her self as leaders of America. We offer a first year and second year course for youth to attend during the summer.
First Year Course
The First Year Course curriculum focuses on Leadership Roles and Accountability, Team Building, Leadership Styles and Situations, Motivating Others, Citizen Responsibility, Integrity as a Leader, Public Speaking, Changing Behaviors, and Goal Setting. Reflection is a key component for each exercise and daily review. Students are placed in leadership roles and participate in a 360° evaluation conducted by the Coach, Mentor, Trainers (CMTs) and Peer Leaders. Participants are rising 9th-12th grade students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with previous leadership experience in clubs or other organizations.The Challenge Institute is an important program thrust of the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center that also includes leadership scholarships and executive forums.

Second Year Course (TAKE II)
The Second Year Course curriculum is offered to youth who have graduated from our First Year Course. The course focuses on social responsibility through leadership within a project management model. Core leadership principles are addressed in the classes to help the student discover their current style of leadership and their hidden leadership abilities. Reflection is a key component for each exercise and daily review. Students are placed in leadership roles and participate in a 360° evaluation conducted by the Coach, Mentor, Trainers (CMTs) and Peer Leaders. Participants are rising 9th-12th grade students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with previous leadership experience in clubs or other organizations.The Challenge Institute is an important program thrust of the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center that also includes leadership scholarships and executive forums.

Dates and Locations
This year, the dates for the institutes are June 22-27 at UNC-Charlotte, Charlotte, NC and July 27-August 1 at NC State University, Raleigh, NC. The first year course is offered at both locations. The second year course is only offered during the July Institute.
Cost of Attendance
The cost to attend either the first or second year course is $425, which includes lodging, meals, and curriculum resources. If you are not applying for financial assistance, a $100 deposit is due with the application. If you are applying for financial assistance, a $50 deposit is due with the application and financial assistance form.

Please send deposit at time of submitting application. If you are applying for financial assistance, please send $50 administrative fee deposit. If you are NOT applying for financial assistance, please send $100 deposit at time of submitting the application. Please make checks payable to Shelton Leadership Challenge.
