Shelton Leadership Challenge Institute - TAKE II (Second Course)
What is the Shelton Challenge - TAKE II (Second Year Course)?
The Course allows graduates from the first year course to expand their knowledge and skills of what it takes to be a great leader. Attendance at the First Year Course is a pre-requisite for this course. The experience will expand on the five Shelton cornerstones of leadership development: Honesty, Integrity, Diversity, Compassion and Social Responsibility, increasing the level of leadership responsibility incorporating conflict resolution, time management, decision-making and project management.
The course will also focus on the following elements of leadership: how to build a team effectively; strategic visioning and planning; trustworthiness; loyalty; diversity and inclusion; public speaking; recognition; resource development; and leadership roles. Core leadership principles are addressed in the activities to help students discover their current style of leadership and their hidden leadership abilities. Reflection is a key component for each exercise and daily review. Students are placed in leadership roles and participate in a 360° evaluation conducted by the Coach, Mentor, Trainers (CMTs) and Peer Leaders. Participants are youth going into 9th-12th grades with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with previous leadership experience in clubs or other organizations. This is a residential program, meaning that we require participants to reside on-site for the week.
