The railroad tracks that lay outside the building belong to Seaboard Airline Railroad, which Eugene Cleveland Bagwell roamed in his personal railcar as manager of the company. Bagwell delivered papers as a teenager, and later graduated from NC State in civil engineering (1904), receiving the Archibald D. Murphy Historical Prize. A staunch supporter of the college, he served as president of the Alumni Association in 1919-1920, and was active in the effort to finance the Memorial Tower.
