Facilities Division had three Finance & Business Award for Excellence Winners.

Horace Blue, grounds supervisor, works efficiently and productively. A number of times he has been seen directing his staff while holding two telephone conversations at once – one cell phone at each ear. He helps with the annual University’s Stop Hunger Now project. Blue is always smiling and can lighten anyone’s day.

 

Bill Ferrell, assistant plant engineer, worked on development,, implementation, and commissioning of a system that fully harnesses increased efficiencies of newly installed equipment. He revised five central utility plant Fire Response Plans. Bill eliminated the backlog of over 750 preventative maintenance items.

 

Albert Scott, director of University Housekeeping has initiated a number of innovative cleaning programs that have resulted in significant cost savings and much appreciated benefits to his 320 staff members. With Scott in charge, NC STATE has the lead in innovative and forward thinking programs to make Housekeeping the provider of choice on campus.

Horace Blue honored at University Awards for Excellence Reception - June 5, 2012

Horace Blue was one of five University staff to receive the University Award for Excellence at the June 5 reception. The five winners will represent NC State University at the Governor's Award for Excellence ceremony. The Governor’s Award for Excellence is the highest honor a State employee may receive. The ceremony will take place this fall during Excellence in State Government Week.

Admin Professionals Day - April 25, 2012
Tour of James B. Hunt Jr. Library
Each year Kevin MacNaughton, Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities, and his directors show appreciation to the Facilities Admin Professionals on national Admin Professional Day by providing a tour of one or more of the building projects under constrution. (Group photo is shown above.)

This year, the group toured the soon-to-be completed James B. Hunt Jr. Library. The library willl be a beautiful and inspiring “signature” building that embodies the essence of Centennial Campus as a community built around knowledge. Located on the academic oval, this iconic building will be a vibrant intellectual and social forum for the campus community, showcasing the latest technologies and research achievements of the university."

Facilities Division 2nd Annual Habitat for Humanity Day

On Friday, April 13, 40 Facilities Division employees and 1 former employee volunteered to work with AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity of Wake County building three homes in the Long Acres neighborhood and doing landscaping work on a previously built home in the Apollo neighborhood.

Facilities Human Resources coordinated the event that drew volunteers from 12 units, which included Building Maintenance & Operations, Business Services, Capital Project Management, Design & Construction Services, Facilities Budget Office, Facilities Human Resources, Facilities Division – Administration, Grounds Management, Office of the University Architect, Repair & Renovation, University Housekeeping, and Utilities & Engineering.

The volunteers were Angkana Bode, Mahomet Accilien, Shon Burch, Lynn Burris, Megan Cain, Stella Carrington, Silas Craig, Edward Elliott, Brenda Forster, Joy Hill, Tierra Hobley, John Holland, Heath Huovinen, Candice Jicha, Erick Juarez, Tim Kelly, Reginald Lane, Magnolia Lugo, Lucy Mabry, Bill Mitchell (retiree), Kevin MacNaughton, Giana Malak, Charlie Marshall, Lisa Maune, Diane Peterson, Claudia Powell, Nikki Price, Terry Price, Jamie Roberts, Roxanne Ryan, Debra Shepherd, Thomas Skolnicki, Cameron Smith, Robert Smolensky, Sally Smolensky, Samuel Stubbs, Angie Ward, Charles Wood, Thomas Wooten, and Rob Yaeger.

Taking the Polar Plunge for Charity on Saturday, February 25, 2012

On a chilly day in February, David Setser and Cameron Smith took the Polar Plunge to raise funds for Special Olympics of North Carolina.
