Tonelli Named ACS Fellow

Dr. Alan E. Tonelli, textile engineering and chemistry professor, has been named a fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Tonelli will be honored at the ACS national meeting Aug. 29 for outstanding research and service to the organization. He will also be recognized in the August issue of Chemical & Engineering News.

Tonelli, the Invista Professor of Fiber and Polymer Chemistry, joined NC State in 1991 after 23 years in polymer chemistry research at AT&T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey.

Tonelli studies the conformations, configurations and structures of synthetic and biological polymers. He is also a fellow of the American Physical Society.

Tonelli earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas and a doctorate in polymer chemistry from Stanford University.
