Clickers are incorporated into classes most effectively when they improve the teaching and learning experience for both instructors and students. Participants in this seminar will learn about the testing theory and collaborative learning research that supports the use of a teaching style known as peer instruction that has been demonstrated to improve learning in large general education classes. Instructors participating in the face-to-face presentation will use clickers and experience peer instruction first-hand. Participants will be provided with instructions for incorporating the pedagogy into their lectures, sample questions that represent a range of learning levels, and references for further reading.

Dr. McConnell's research focus is on science education, with specific attention to assessment of learning in large general education geoscience classes. He also helps provide instructors with teaching strategies designed to fit their course and classroom setting, and to provide students with a range of learning opportunities that will capture their interest and increase their understanding of key concepts.
