Resolution for the Provision of Lactation Space in NCSU Facilities
Whereas,
A diversified academy that demonstrates its inclusiveness is both desirable and necessary in the 21st century, and
Whereas,
Private lactation space is a good recruitment tool for women of childbearing age, and
Whereas,
Private lactation space can improve employee retention, reduce employee absenteeism, andreduce health care costs, and
Whereas,
Private lactation space facilitates a mother’s choice to breast feed her child which in turn helps to reduce childhood (and later adult) illnesses,
Therefore be it Resolved,
That NC State University develop and implement dedicated private spaces for lactation needs for faculty, staff, and students, and
Further be it Resolved,
That NC State University require the inclusion of lactation space as appropriate in all new facilities, and
Further be it Resolved,
That NC State University strongly recommend that lactation space be provided when existing facilities are subject to renovation, and
Further be it Resolved,
That where dedicated lactation space is not uniformly available, NC State University require that all supervisors provide faculty, staff, and students access to adequate and acceptable spaces for lactation purposes as needed, and
Further be it Resolved,
That information pertaining to the right of accommodation for lactation purposes and the location of all dedicated campus lactation spaces be communicated to all new and current employees and their supervisors.
