Staff Changes in FAO
Jennie LaMonte has left NC State to become Managing Director of the Mitchell Scholars program. The University, students, and coworkers appreciate the energy and expertise that she has given to the Office of Fellowship Advising. We congratulate her on her new position.
Professor R. Larry Blanton, Director of the University Honors Program, will serve as the interim Fellowships Advisor with assistance from Dr. George Barthalmus and Mrs. Judy Day. You can continue to use FANG to communicate with Dr. Blanton, Dr. Barthalmus, and Mrs. Day. Fellowship advising appointments with Dr. Blanton should be made by calling (919) 513-4078. Appointments for discussing NC State Undergraduate Research Awards should be made by contacting Mrs. Day via e-mail (judy_day@ncsu.edu).
NC State Students Enjoy Banner Year!
We are proud to announce over 55 awards and recognitions earned by NC State students. NC State undergraduates and alumni have once again placed the University among the top ranks of institutions in the nation in the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship competition. Students have won major international awards, such as the Boren, Fulbright, and Gates Cambridge Scholarships. Closer to home, NC State students have excelled in programs such as the Hollings and Udall Scholarships, both of which have environmental components to their competition criteria. This year, NC State undergraduates and alum won more NSF Graduate Research Fellowships than those from the rest of the UNC system schools combined.
NC State ranks third among our peer schools when comparing results in selected fellowship and scholarship competitions.
For four consecutive years, an NC State student has been a finalist in the rigorous Marshall Scholarship competition.
In 2008-2009, NC state students secured awards valued at more than $3.2M (yes, million).
