Bright Ideas - Leading a Biofuel Bonanza
Breaking America's oil addiction will take extraordinary leadership and new sources of energy. That's good news for NC State.
Every year, drivers travel more than 2.7 trillion miles down American highways and byways, burning through our nation’s fossil-fuel resources at an alarming pace. At NC State, we’re discovering new ways to keep these cars moving, using organic materials from plants and animals and converting them to energy.
“The key to all this is diversification,” says Dr. Bryon Sosinski, associate professor of horticultural science. “We need to get every possible energy source into the equation for the future.”
From green plants and wood chips to algae and animal fats, our collective mind is in overdrive as we race to develop a renewable, practical energy source that can literally fuel our future.
With oil prices high and the environmental threat of greenhouse gasses at a boiling point, it’s time to put the pedal to the metal. Want to take a ride?
