We admit it: Some classes made us feel a little drowsy. But then again, those classes didn’t involve identifying crime victims, attending rock concerts, traveling to the beach or eating bugs.
These are just some of the interesting projects we found when we went looking for the most engaging courses offered on campus today. After combing through all 3,998 classes in the course catalog and speaking with students, faculty and recent alumni, we had more examples than we could include.
Here’s a sampling:
ENT201 - Insects & People
Go on a walking tour through the world of insects that begins with lessons on insect evolution and ends with discussions on the use of insects human artistic culture.
MUS180Q - Introduction to Musical Experiences
In this tuneful class worth taking, students learn how to listen perceptively, how music is organized and how to create a composition.
ARS/TAM352 - Dress, Style & Change
Through sources such as artwork, film clips, books and costumes, students learn how and why clothing styles have changed over time.
BUS225 - Introduction to Personal Finance
Using real-world scenarios, students are armed with the financial terminology and savvy they’ll need to plan for the future once they graduate.
MEA120 - The Dinosaurian World
Discover dinosaur lifestyles and how they relate to topics such as plate tectonics, rock records, paleoclimatology, diversity and patterns of evolution and extinction.
STS323Q - World Population & Food Prospects
Using case studies and interactive learning exercises, this class focuses on causes and aims to fight poverty and hunger around the globe.
