With all of the pomp and circumstance befitting their successes both in and out of the classroom, NC State University will celebrate its 2,925 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree candidates at the University's 2007 Fall Commencement Ceremony to be held this week at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

On Tuesday from 4:30 - 6 p.m., Chancellor James L. Oblinger and Dr. Diana G. Oblinger will receive graduating students, as well as their families and friends, at a reception to be held in the Ballroom of the Talley Student Center. Reception guests are encouraged to park in the Coliseum Parking Deck on Central Campus.

At 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, a 30-minute concert featuring the Amalgam Brass Ensemble will take place before graduation exercises get underway at 9 a.m. The Grains of Time and Ladies in Red - NC State's renowned male and female a cappella groups - will perform during the commencement ceremony.

"It's going to be a nice way to kick off the holiday season," NC State vice provost of enrollment management and services Louis D. Hunt said, "We're very proud of our graduates, so we want to make Wednesday morning's ceremony a real celebration of their accomplishments and achievements."

NC State will confer 46 associate degrees, 1,951 baccalaureate degrees, 725 master's degrees and 203 doctoral degrees on Wednesday morning. In combination with the 4,074 total degrees the university conferred in May, NC State will award 6,999 degrees in 2007.

This year's commencement speaker is College of Management Distinguished Alumnus Billy Ray Hall ('69 and '70), the founding president of the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center, which helps develop sound economic strategies in North Carolina's 85 rural counties.

Hall served four N.C. governors in ascending levels of policy positions, and was directed the state's redevelopment and disaster recovery efforts following hurricanes Fran and Floyd.

The RBC Center, home of the NC State Wolfpack men's basketball team, is easily accessible and conveniently located adjacent to Carter-Finley Stadium and the N.C. State Fairgrounds off I-40 and I-440. Wednesday's commencement ceremony is free and open to the public.
