For the 30-35 million Americans who purchased a live Christmas tree this season, it's now time to figure out the best way to get it out of the house. And although you can't replant it alongside these trees, NC State associate professor of wildlife ecology Chris Moorman says there are a number of ways your Christmas tree can make a significant contribution in the environment around you.

Carbs for the Kids

More than 3,000 participants — including NC State News Services' Chad Austin — took part in the student-organized Krispy Kreme Challenge on Jan. 26, 2008. The runners braved chilly conditions and caloric overload to help raise $20,000 for the N.C. Children's Hospital.
