Acting U.S. Surgeon General Kenneth P. Moritsugu
From Staff Reports
The 2007-2008 NC State University Millennium Seminars Series kicked off Wednesday, Sept. 12, as acting U.S. Surgeon General Kenneth P. Moritsugu traveled to Raleigh for a seminar titled “3 Guides to Action for Underage Drinking,” based on the Call to Action he issued in May.
The Millennium Seminars complement NC State’s land-grant mission to transform lives and improve the human condition through innovation and discovery. While these seminars are student-centered, they are open to the entire university community and general public. The seminars are free to attend and are held at Stewart Theatre (located in the Talley Student Center).
University leaders have recruited a diverse list of speakers for this year’s program -- experts who will discuss some of the key issues facing our world today:
-
In October, acclaimed interviewer and broadcast journalist Charlie Rose will moderate a panel discussion of architects and experts whose vision and projects feature “green” designs that are also in sync with sustainable design practices. The panel will include NC State College of Design Dean Marvin Malecha, president of the American Institute of Architects, noted architect Thom Mayne and public health expert Dick Jackson.
-
Former U.S. Labor Secretary and best-selling author Robert Reich will help NC State ring in the new year, as he will appear at Stewart Theatre on Jan. 31, 2008 to discuss China, India and the Future of Everything.
-
In March of 2008, Donna Shalala, president of the University of Miami and the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services during the Clinton administration, will be in Raleigh to talk about veterans rights and health care.
All seminars are free and open to the public. No registration is needed.
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, NC State will honor requests for reasonable accommodations made by individuals with disabilities. Requests can be served more effectively if notice is provided at least 10 days before each event. Direct accommodation requests to Retta Clemons at 919.515.2195 or retta_clemons@ncsu.edu.
