2009 Watauga Medalist C. Richard Vaughn

 C. Richard Vaughn

NC State alumnus C. Richard Vaughn (’61), for whom Carter-Finley Stadium’s Wolfpack Towers were renamed in 2004, has been a loyal supporter of NC State academics and athletics for many years.

“Being a Watauga Award recipient is certainly the top honor I have ever received,” Vaughn said. “I cannot imagine anyone receiving an award more meaningful than one from your alma mater, which I appreciate and love so much.

“I trust I am deserving, and that I will be able to spend the balance of my years remaining active with support of NC State University.”

Vaughn has twice served on NC State’s Board of Trustees, as well as the NC State Investment Fund Members Board. Vaughn, who resides in Mount Airy, N.C., is chairman and CEO of the John S. Clark Company, chairman of the North Carolina Granite Corporation and chairman of Riverside Building Supply, Inc.

“Seldom does a day pass that I don't recall something that I picked up during my State career that has been important in my life and my work,” he said. “I am so happy to know that a student at our university can find anything needed to help him successfully make life's journey.” – Dave Pond
