Hitting the Road

For the next seven days, NC State alum and Raleigh-based graphic designer Will Langley, armed with only a $20 bill and a full tank of gas, is taking to the streets to raise the profile of the growing number of unsheltered homeless residents facing daily, harsh realities in our local community.

Up to the Task

On Saturday, November 20, 39 members of NC State's Naval ROTC freshman class completed the "Wolfpack Challenge" - a six-hour test of their physical fitness ability, general military knowledge, knowledge of the major service components of the Navy and Marine Corps, and most importantly their ability to work as a team toward a common goal.

Giving Thanks

Omar Acosta ('14) has dreamed of being a doctor since he was a child. As he began to narrow down his college choices, NC State moved to the top of the list - despite not having a medical school on campus. Now, Acosta says, he's on course to realize his dream - thanks to the university's unique interdisciplinary approach to education and the overwhelming support offered to Bone Scholars like himself.

Ready for Business

The Jenkins MBA program is reaching out to on-the-go business professionals, military members, international students and others who prefer distance education opportunities with the creation of a two-year, online MBA option scheduled to launch next fall. The program will begin receiving applications Jan. 3, 2011.

Putting Education into Practice

Running for public office is not for the faint of heart of any age. But what if you're 21 years old, and a full-time, double-major, Dean's-list student? Meet NC State junior - and newly elected Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor - Jenna Wadsworth.

Leading the Pack

NC State students honored two of their own during halftime of Saturday's 38-3 win over Wake Forest, naming juniors Chandler Thompson and Sam Dennis as this year's Leader of the Pack award recipients, in recognition of their outstanding leadership, scholarship and community service contributions to the university.

Extreme Makeover

Inside a makeshift garage, a team of NC State students moves hurriedly around a stripped-down SUV, working diligently under the watchful eye of three Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering graduate students. It's a race against the clock - as well as teams from 15 other universities across North America - to retool their ride into an energy-efficient, EcoCAR Challenge award winner.

Strumming Up Business

Italo Leiva was struggling to learn sheet music for guitars when suddenly a light bulb went off. Specifically, a light with seven colors. So, Leiva color-coded his guitar strings to improve his skills, and now fronts a start-up business with a chance to become a big hit in the music equipment industry.
