Features for February, 2011

On the Waterfront

An oversized Whoopee cushion, several superheroes and an assortment of costumed critters joined their 'human' classmates for Saturday's Polar Plunge - an icy dip into NC State's Lake Raleigh - to help raise more than $60,000 for Special Olympics North Carolina.

Finely Tuned

Each spring, mtvU seeks to recognize the nation's best college radio station with a 'Woodie Award.' Not only has our own WKNC 88.1 FM been nominated for top honors, NC State's home to all things eclectic sits squarely in mtvU's 'Top 10.'

Off the Hook: Lead, Serve, and Find a Great Deal! (2.24.11)

Deadlines are fast approaching to apply for elected student leadership positions, and our part of the NCSSM-led, Guinness world-record-breaking canned food drive is right around the corner! And, did I mention that NC State has – once again – been named one of the nation's best college values?

Together We Can

Wolfpack fans can help a statewide residential magnet school shatter a Guinness world record by donating canned food during Saturday's NC State-Georgia Tech men's hoops matchup at the RBC Center.

All-Around Champions

Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford announced Friday that three NC State student-athletes, including senior gymnast Brittany Vontz, have been selected to receive the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award, given to student-athletes who have performed with distinction in competition, in the classroom and in the community.

The French Connection

Like many prospective engineers, Quentin Vermont is here in part to broaden his job prospects. But unlike most other engineers on campus, Vermont is pursuing a degree from the France-based SKEMA Business School, which opened its first U.S. campus at NC State last month.

Off the Hook: Where is Your Tuition Going? (2.15.11)

With all the recent budget cuts, NC State's Strategic Plan will help determine where your money is going to be spent. Learn more about the Undergraduate Student Success Task Force and how its initiatives will affect you.

All In

On the first day prospective NC State students could commit to making our campus their future home, Reeves Thompson wasted no time in saying yes - becoming one of the first members of the Class of 2015 to officially join the Wolfpack family.

We’ve Got Wheels

Frustrated with rising gas prices and the grind of the daily commute? A slew of new and improved transportation options offer NC State students, faculty and staff the opportunity to get around town in eco-friendly style and, in some cases, even eliminate the need for wheels of their own.

Carb-Loaded Champs

A cold rain couldn't dampen the spirits of the 7,500 Krispy Kreme Challenge participants, who raised $100,000 for the N.C. Childrens Hospital during Saturday's four-mile, doughnut-fueled dash. Take a look back through the eyes of NC State photojournalist Becky Kirkland, who captured everything down to the last glaze-covered bite.
