Each spring, mtvU seeks to recognize the nation's best college radio station with a 'Woodie Award.' Not only has our own WKNC 88.1 FM been nominated for top honors, NC State's home to all things eclectic sits squarely in mtvU's 'Top 10.'
On Jan. 21, eleven of the College of Engineering's most talented students sang, danced and unicycled their way across the Stewart Theatre stage in a quest to become 'Mr. Engineer,' all while raising money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Omar Acosta ('14) has dreamed of being a doctor since he was a child. As he began to narrow down his college choices, NC State moved to the top of the list - despite not having a medical school on campus. Now, Acosta says, he's on course to realize his dream - thanks to the university's unique interdisciplinary approach to education and the overwhelming support offered to Bone Scholars like himself.
A few months ago, the Oprah Winfrey network (OWN) and reality-TV producer Mark Burnett launched a national video campaign asking everyday people to share what they'd do with their own talk show. Armed with big dreams for tiny, ladybug-inspired vehicles to those that recall the sleek lines of Japanese drift cars, middle- and high-school students from around the region raced their way through NC State's first Sustainable Transportation Education Program (STEP), held outside the McKimmon Center.
After a week of late-night chats, watching hilarious movies together, and introducing him to basically everyone I know, Donovan and I decided it just wasn't going to work out. It's all going to be fine. Friends come and go, and it's rare that someone sticks around for a really long time. I get that.
He's really nice though! If you want a nice, friendly, attractive guy, he's totally it. However, you should know that he will never hold down a "real" job. I'm just trying to let you know what you're getting in to. You see, multi-tasking is just not his thing. For some folks, that's okay. "No big deal!" they say For me, it's just not going to cut it.
Here we are at hour 59 since they gave me Donovan, and I have to say he definitely has his role. (What? I name things. It gives them character. And personality. Besides, I just cannot continue to use the label "iPad'. It gives me the creeps every time I even think it.)
It showed up! Are you surprised? I have to tell you, I kind of am. I received an onslaught of emails, gchats, and texts via my PunkBerry informing me my iPad was ready for pickup, and I immediately began to think of the possibilities. "I can charge my phone with the USB port! I can transfer files from my iPod to the iPad! I can look at my Design PowerPoints on it rather than print them out!" Sadly, none of those things happened.
These folks seem like geniuses. iPad. Ack. I am not able to speak publicly about what my first thoughts were when this new Apple product got announced. Needless to say, I wasn't really all that curious. This new creation de Apple is not on my "Must Buy NOW" list, or even on my "Maybe Buy Someday?" list. So, we'll see how an "oversized iPhone" (someone else's words, not mine) becomes incorporated in to my everyday life.
