Settling In

Settling In

Randy Woodson knows his first few months as NC State chancellor will be about getting to know the state, our alumni, Wolfpack Club members and the faculty and the staff of North Carolina's largest university. We’re eager to get to know him as well, so we asked him about everything from his plans for NC State’s future to his passion for bluegrass.

Meeting the Grand Challenges

Meeting the Grand Challenges

NC State builds leaders. Just ask freshman Brian Schuster, who helped plan an international event attended by a legendary entrepreneur, two college deans and his fellow students, each armed with big ideas ranging from the creation of easy-to-use blood-counting devices to providing nuclear-based heat to remote Alaskan communities.

A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell

On Tuesday, NC State will hold a farewell reception to honor Chancellor Jim Woodward's service and dedication to the university. The event is open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. in Talley Student Center. In advance of the celebration, Woodward reflected on his return to campus, and more.

Bronzed and Beautiful

Bronzed and Beautiful

Near NC State's free expression tunnel, a trio of five-foot-tall, 1,200-pound wolves stands guard over the hustle and bustle of everyday campus life. The sculptures, funded from non-appropriated, non-student-fee dollars, were formally installed and unveiled Tuesday, Mar. 9, at 2 p.m.

Let There Be Light

Let There Be Light

An alum is leading the effort to restore NC State's legendary Color Wall, a symphony of light that once dazzled Hillsborough Street. Beginning March 7, a group of paintings by creator (and former NC State design professor) Joe Cox will be available for purchase as part of an effort to raise money to bring the Wall back to its vibrant, color-changing glory.

Five Minutes to Fame

Five Minutes to Fame

NC State students with ambitions of becoming the next Scorsese, Tarantino or even Michael Bay can now get one step closer to their dream, thanks to the university's participation in the national Campus MovieFest competition.

It's a classic example of competing interests. Students want access to the latest interactive software applications and plenty of storage space for big data files. Now, thanks to a partnership with Google, both sides are getting exactly what they want - and saving an estimated $60,000 per year.

Thankful

Thankful

In trading the blustery Connecticut winters for the balmy breezes that blow through NC State's campus all year long, senior Jezzette Rivera has found educational and life-enrichment opportunities she said wouldn't have been possible had she stayed closer to her Connecticut home.

What’s Old is New Again

What’s Old is New Again

Over time, our electronic devices have gotten flatter, faster and more technologically advanced, allowing us to work, watch or Facebook in ways we never have before. But many of the machines that they’ve replaced – like clunky, antiquated CRT monitors, stacks of CDs and inkjet printers – get shoved into supply closets, storage cabinets and even landfills, creating significant occupational and environmental issues that must be addressed.

Inspired Ambition

Inspired Ambition

NC State senior Marquis McCullough isn't the type of person to sit around and wait for things to happen, so when he attended a pre-college leadership program held at NC State University, he found a campus full of like-minded students he could relate to.
