Hooked on Science

Hooked on Science

On April 27, Dr. Trudy Mackay became our ninth current faculty member to gain election to the National Academy of Sciences, an honor that speaks to the significance of her 22 years of work at NC State. Today, she discusses her passion for science and her ability to equip students with the knowledge they need to succeed both in and outside the laboratory.

Promising Future

Political science major Ericka Aiken will graduate with no debt, armed with a slew of offers from some of the nation's top law schools. She, along with 84 of her fellow graduates, is part of the inaugural class of NC State's Pack Promise program, which guarantees qualifying students 100 percent of financial aid requirements.

Becoming Mr. Wuf

Becoming Mr. Wuf

Zach Jones always wanted to be a hapless cartoon animal with a dangerous lifestyle and endless vitality. He was living the dream this weekend, on a quest to become the legendary Mr. Wuf. Is Zach mascot material? Follow along as the NC State freshman went under the mask, and see how his journey turned out.

Safety Sweep

Safety Sweep

When industrial design graduate student Kathryn Asad won first place in a student traffic safety contest at the New York International Auto Show, judges asked her not to mention the name of her school. It turns out they were embarrassed that students from one university - NC State - swept nearly every award in the competition.

A Perfect Game

A Perfect Game

Lindsay Campana, one of the ACC's top pitchers and the ace of the Wolfpack, will spend Monday afternoon helping 20 local children with disabilities experience the joys of playing softball. But unlike other matchups to be played across the conference that day, everyone on NC State's Dail Stadium diamond will truly leave the game a winner.

Skeleton Crew

Skeleton Crew

The renovated Park Shops building has everything NC State students need to dig into the past: new workspaces, spacious anthropology labs and plenty of skeletons - in the closet and elsewhere. Now, students can bone up on even the most minute details in pursuit of careers ranging from forensics to archaeology, with little concern of classroom overcrowding.

An Affair to Remember

An Affair to Remember

What adventure this week has been. I have attempted to explore every possible feature this machine has to offer and I have seen things good and bad, but, in the end, one side has to win. Although there are many aspects of this machine that I enjoyed greatly, I am spoken for. My true love lies with my Mac Book Pro and iPhone. The iPad, although cool, is simply a gadget. It is not practical for everyday use.

It was a great relationship, but it was time to go our separate ways

It was a great relationship, but it was time to go our separate ways

After a week of late-night chats, watching hilarious movies together, and introducing him to basically everyone I know, Donovan and I decided it just wasn't going to work out. It's all going to be fine. Friends come and go, and it's rare that someone sticks around for a really long time. I get that.

Anything But Typical

Anything But Typical

A dozen NC State student designers, along with more than 2,500 spectators, celebrated the fusion of fashion and art at Wednesday's Art to Wear fashion show at Reynolds Coliseum. From the use of traditional medium and fabrics to local eateries' fast-food containers, student designs and materials ran the gamut.

It Takes Two

It Takes Two

In helping students cope with tight economic times, NC State leaders have formed a dual-degree program with Campbell Law School that will allow students to earn their Master of Public Administration and Juris Doctor degrees in just four years - saving them serious tuition dollars while getting them into the workplace a year sooner than their future colleagues.
