On Tour

As the leader of the only university with a presence in all 100 North Carolina counties, NC State chancellor Dr. Randy Woodson - along with his wife, Susan - hit the road this summer to gain a firsthand look at how NC State makes a difference from the mountains to the sea.

A Pack’s Eye View of the West Wing

Eighteen months into his stint as President Barack Obama's press secretary and confidante, former Wolfpack soccer goalie Robert Gibbs ('92) is one of the most recognizable faces in the administration. A lightning rod figure, Gibbs takes more shots today than he ever did at NC State - and is enjoying every minute of it.

Following His Star

For Alumni Association executive director Benny Suggs ('69), it's all about doing the right thing - and having fun along the way. Suggs, who served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and was deputy commander in chief, U.S. Special Operations Command, upon his retirement in 2000, was most recently general manager of the Harley Owners Group and Rider Services at Harley-Davidson Motor Co.

Keepin’ it Green

As the summer sun bears down on the lush grasses blanketing some of our nation's top athletic facilities, it's NC State graduates like John Turnour ('01) who are getting the call in hopes of keeping what's green from turning brown - saving their bosses considerable green of their own in the process.

Making a Difference

When disaster struck the Gulf Coast, experts and alumni from NC State quickly headed to the region to assist in cleanup efforts and to help restore wildlife and local beaches. And although oil continues to wash ashore, Dr. Greg Lewbart said he's encouraged by what he and other volunteers have been able to accomplish.

Rock Can Roll

In continuing NC State's mission to assist and serve those beyond the borders of our campus, Student Government, the Union Activities Board and WKNC 88.1 came together last week with a singular goal in mind - cranking up the volume to help a local food bank fight hunger across 34 North Carolina counties.

Settling In

Randy Woodson knows his first few months as NC State chancellor will be about getting to know the state, our alumni, Wolfpack Club members and the faculty and the staff of North Carolina's largest university. We’re eager to get to know him as well, so we asked him about everything from his plans for NC State’s future to his passion for bluegrass.

A Fond Farewell

On Tuesday, NC State will hold a farewell reception to honor Chancellor Jim Woodward's service and dedication to the university. The event is open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. in Talley Student Center. In advance of the celebration, Woodward reflected on his return to campus, and more.

Fueling His Passion

Tim Turner is a baby boomer on a crusade, trying to refine a process that can turn animal fat and waste grease into hydrocarbon fuels. He developed the process three years ago with three NC State professors. Although Turner could be mistaken for a professor himself, he's actually a 57-year-old graduate student embarking on a career in the green economy.

On the Record

In this third installment of an occasional series of conversations, Chancellor-elect Randy Woodson discusses his assimilation into the Wolfpack family, the importance of collaboration between NC State's colleges and departments, and some of the best ways to get to know students, faculty, staff and alumni.
