A Fond Farewell

On Tuesday, NC State will hold a farewell reception to honor Chancellor Jim Woodward's service and dedication to the university. The event is open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. in Talley Student Center. In advance of the celebration, Woodward reflected on his return to campus, and more.




A Wolfpack Welcome

On Wednesday, Feb. 17, we welcomed Chancellor-elect W. Randolph Woodson and his wife, Susan, to the NC State family with a pep-band-fueled, high-energy celebratory event at Reynolds Coliseum. Dr. Woodson, who met hundreds of students, faculty, staff and alumni after the festivities, will officially join NC State as chancellor on April 5.

Inspired to Give Back

Despite having toiled through a year filled with economic turmoil and uncertainty, NC State employees enter 2010 having pledged more than half a million dollars to the State Employees Combined Campaign, which supports charities and non-profit organizations across North Carolina. NC State led the state's large universities in employee participation and saw an increase of more than 100 faculty and staff members contributing to this year's campaign.




Setting the Stage

U2’s much-anticipated appearance on campus Oct. 3 will not only mark the end of Carter-Finley Stadium’s 11-year hiatus from holding special events, it will also highlight NC State and U2 lead singer Bono’s shared passion for environmental issues while helping to bring more than 1,500 temporary jobs to workers in our community.

Welcome Home

From the youngest undergrad to members of the university’s Board of Trustees, members of the NC State family gathered Tuesday afternoon for a standing-room-only celebration to officially welcome former professor Jim Woodward back to the university as chancellor.




Ready to Lead

After a long, distinguished career in higher education, Jim Woodward found himself quite comfortable in retirement – a career choice that allowed the former UNC-Charlotte chancellor an opportunity to relax the days away (sans jacket and tie, of course) with his wife, Martha, and their new puppy. Then came a Sunday afternoon phone call from UNC system president Erskine Bowles, who asked if Woodward – whose teaching career began at NC State in 1968 – would be interested in returning to campus as the university’s chancellor. It was the only position, Woodward recalled earlier this week, capable of luring him out of retirement.




Jim Woodward Named Interim Chancellor of NC State University

Dr. Jim Woodward has been named of North Carolina State University, bringing years of administrative experience and leadership to the university. Woodward, who started work at NC State June 9, previously served as the chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1989 to 2005.
