Dana Bible (right), whose battle with leukemia is well-known by Wolfpack and ACC fans alike, is a finalist for the 2011 Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award. Bible - NC State's offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach - was diagnosed in Nov. 2009 and underwent full treatment while maintaining his leadership role with the Wolfpack.
Russell Wilson's late father always told him that there is a king in every crowd, looking to make sure he did things properly. Few people have had more attention on them - and handled it with more poise - than Wilson, the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl MVP, honor student and star baseball player.
NC State has accepted a bid to play No. 22 West Virginia in the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando on Dec. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with a limited allocation of tickets currently available to Wolfpack Club members and NC State fans.
First Lieutenant Christopher Young has never needed to write a letter to the parents of one of his Marines, explaining why their son won't be coming home from Afghanistan. And that's why the former NC State football player from Raleigh was recently awarded the Bronze Star for bravery – protecting his platoon during a hellacious month in Afghanistan's southern Helmand Province. Some of the support Young received while in the field came from a squadron of Cobra attack helicopters – just like the one his cousin, Captain Drew Wimsatt, was flying over the region. Wimsatt, a defensive end for the Wolfpack from 2000-02, has completed several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and recently sent NC State head football coach Tom O'Brien, a former Marine officer, a flag that Wimsatt kept in the cockpit of his helicopter.
