Gala: Haven House Gala Benefiary New Sense Studios:
An Art Initiative for Haven House

When Haven House (www.havenhousenc.org) director Mike Rieder dreamed of adding a new program to the multi-faceted services of his agency serving troubled youth of Wake County, he called the Caldwell Fellows. The challenge he set forth -- to create a sustainable art program -- became a service learning team project of the Caldwell sophomore seminar.

In fall 2008 two teams of Fellows began tackling the details of this grand undertaking and one semester and countless hours later -- hours of researching, dreaming, piloting, collaborating, evaluating, planning and presenting -- the launch is on.

On December 4, 2008, in a presentation to the Haven House staff and board members, the Fellows unveiled the vision for “New Sense Studios.”

Instrumental partners in the vision’s planning and implementation are faculty and students from the College of Design and core to the vision is the on-going engagement of Caldwell Fellows in the leadership and sustenance of New Sense Studios for years to come. The excitement for this undertaking has spread across the Caldwell community which has selected New Sense Studios as the beneficiary for this years’ fourth annual gala on February 14.
