Protecting the Logo
From a NASCAR Busch Series race car to burial caskets to the traditional hats and t-shirts, many diverse products have borne the official logo of NC State University since the University's Trademark Licensing program was started in 1982. The Trademark Licensing program's mission is to support University educational goals by marketing a positive image, providing scholarship funds, and controlling the quality of items exhibiting NC State marks. The University currently has licensing agreements with 487 companies, which produced $794,000 in gross royalties in fiscal year 2008-09. Since the beginning of the program, $4,360,069 has been allocated to scholarships.

Announcing a new division in Finance and Business
A new division within the Office of Finance and Business has been created in order to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of student and campus support operations. The new Campus Enterprises Division comprises the Bookstores, University Dining, and the associated entities of convenience stores, vending, concessions, and campus retail operations as well as the All-Campus card. The responsibilities of this division include managing the facilities that support these services, including the Talley Student Center, Witherspoon Student Center, Erdhal-Cloyd Atrium, and support facilities in the future Town Center and Alliance Center on Centennial Campus. As the lead division for NC State's retailing and hospitality functions, Campus Enterprises also provides coordination with the Centennial Campus golf course and the future Conference Center and Hotel. Funding for this division comes from non-appropriated sources.
A website for the Campus Enterprises Division will be coming soon!
Playing Golf at NC State
The Centennial Campus Development Office is proud to have been involved in bringing the new Lonnie Poole Golf Course to the southwest corner of Centennial Campus. The new course officially opened in August, 2009 with a Grand Opening Ceremony attended by golfing legend and course designer Arnold Palmer. The 16th annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Tournament was held soon afterward, featuring a host of sports and entertainment celebrities from all over the country. The par-71 course is Palmer's first public golf course design in Raleigh, the first course built inside the Raleigh beltline since 1948, and the new home for NC State’s men's and women's golf teams.
Rocky Branch Restoration Project
North Carolina Sea Grant and NC State University are implementing a three-phase stream restoration and greenway plan to renovate Rocky Branch, an urban creek that runs more than a mile through the heart of the university's campus. The goal of the project is to create a safe and accessible outdoor teaching laboratory. The restoration effort strives to stabilize the creek; improve water quality, aquatic and wildlife habitat; and integrate the creek into the campus environment.

Conserving Water
NC State continues to develop innovative methods to reduce water consumption across campus. At the Flex Lab Building, personnel from Facilities Services' Maintenance and Operations shop completed a project to capture condensate from outdoor rooftop units that dehumidify air to meet research and occupant requirements. The condensate was diverted from draining on the roof and now drains into the cooling tower. Through this innovative, low-cost project, water consumption has been reduced by approximately 218,000 gallons per year. This project continues to demonstrate Building and Maintenance Operations' commitment to water conservation and sustainability on campus.

Improving Hillsborough Street
After many years of planning, major improvements to Hillsborough Street are finally underway. The project is converting Hillsborough Street to a two-lane, median-divided roadway with on-street parking on both sides, a seven-foot wide raised median, sidewalk bulb-outs at the intersections and mid-block location and several pedestrian signals. A dual-lane roundabout is replacing the Hillsborough Street and Pullen Road traffic signal. The project also includes the replacement of sidewalks, water and sewer utilities throughout the length of the project, and LED street and pedestrian lighting. [MORE]
State Employees Combined Campaign for 2009 a Success!
Finance and Business employees have exceeded a 50% participation rate in the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) for the first time, with 711 donors pledging $57,342. Although total giving is down 14% in this tough economic environment, these numbers represent a 17% increase in participation over the 2008 campaign.
Contributions to the charities included in the SECC result in significant improvements in the quality of life for those with special needs, creating new funding for important research in the effort to eliminate disease and illness. These dollars also support community organizations that enrich the community as well as environmental and conservation efforts.
Saving money for campus auxiliaries
The Treasurer's Office has notified campus auxiliaries that the interest rate they will be paying on their debt for the next two years has been reduced from 4.75% to 4.25%. This change is possible due to the positive interest rate environment of the past year. This change will save campus units approximately $1 million for fiscal year 2010.
