In March of 2011, the Chancellor accepted recommendations from the Strategic Planning process and outlined the work to be done (see http://info.ncsu.edu/strategic-planning/2011/03/25/from-the-chancellor-work-to-be-done/) . One of the recommendations accepted was to realign business operations across the university campus. Towards that end, the Business Operations Realignment Steering Team (BORST) was formed to make recommendations on how best to implement that goal. The BORST began its work in June and will submit an interim report in December and a final report sometime early in 2012. This web site is intended to share the charge, membership, process, and progress of the BORST, and to maximize input across campus so that the recommendations reflect the opinions and expertise of our university communities.
As a committee we have agreed on the following guiding principles:
- Practice open, active and frequent communication.
- Treat people fairly and with professional respect.
- Determine and document "Current State".
- Think carefully and creatively in designing "Future State".
- Agree on how to define and measure success of Business Operations Centers prior to implementation.
- Develop strategy for issue resolution and governance prior to go-live.
- Phase the go-live and allow an adequate stabilization period.
- Infuse the Business Operations Centers with a continuous improvement mind set going forward.
