Position Announcement

 

Position:  Professional Academic Advisor position that will work in conjunction with the undergraduate coordinators for Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences. The advisor will assist students successfully transition into the university and make progress toward their education goals and graduation. Advisors are part of the educational process, providing academic information and guidance to help students understand curricula, policies, and procedures. Academic advising is a collaborative teaching relationship among academic advisors, students, faculty, and the university community

 

Appointment:  100% Academic Programs, 12-month, fulltime

 

Position Available:  October 1, 2008

 

Responsibilities:  Advise students majoring in food, bioprocessing, or nutrition sciences.

Monitor and maintain undergraduate student records and databases in accordance with department and university records retention procedures. Coordinate requests for information and departmental visits from prospective undergraduate food, bioprocessing, and nutrition science students. Advise students and faculty on undergraduate process and procedures. Establish, coordinate, and maintain a faculty-undergraduate mentoring program. Coordinate department orientation for new and transfer undergraduate students. Support the department's recruitment initiative. Support the responsibilities of the department's undergraduate coordinators. Serve on departmental committees as appointed.

 

Qualifications:  A bachelor's degree in a science-related discipline is required with a degree in food, bioprocessing, and/or nutrition science preferred. An advanced degree in a related field would be a benefit as would experience working with high school students. Candidates must possess superior verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, attentiveness to details, organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently and take initiative. The ability to consistently demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, work with students in a positive and supportive manner, interact with the university community, and demonstrate a service-oriented attitude are all required for this position. Advisors are required to maintain student files consisting of official and confidential matters with strict attention to detail. Candidate should have the appropriate computer literacy and technology skills with an ability to understand and learn new on-line programs.
