Brad Shepherd, a senior in the College of Management, wrote his
essay honoring his parents, Carlyle and Margaret Shepherd, and his
three sisters, Carla, Angie, and Stacie. Brad says his family has
had "four wins and no losses" at NC State. His three sisters are
proud NC State alumni, and Bradley expects to graduate in May.
Mr. & Mrs. Shepherd are proud Appalachian State University graduates and
live
in Dobson, NC.
"Being involved and giving something back have always been strong
characteristics of our family," writes Brad, as
he shares an impressive list of honors and activities for his sisters and himself,
including Park Scholar, Golden Key, Study Abroad, the Wolfpack Club,
and Special
Olympics to name a few.
The success of the Shepherd children can be attributed to the "unconditional
love and support" from their parents, says Brad. Margaret Shepherd
was thrilled with the honor. She says the Shepherds are a very close
family, "when one of has a bad day, we all share it." This closeness
is evident in Brad's essay. When one of Brad's sisters became very
ill and was encouraged to withdraw from classes, Mrs. Shepherd took
a leave of absence from work to help her daugheter recover so she
could complete the semester. "As a math and physics instructor," Brad
writes, "my dad has always been available for middle-of-the-night
calculus or physics tutorial."
The Shepherds were honored at two presentations during Parents & Families
Weekend. Chancellor Marye Ann Fox presented the Shepherds with a
commemorative plaque and book scholarship for $250.00 during the
Parents & Families Weekend picnic and football game.
