Hello, My son is a freshman. He is interested in becoming an
RA next year. How competitive is it? What % that apply actually
are able to become an RA? Thank you |

Response:
Submitted Wednesday, September 10
We're always interested in talking with students who want
to become members of our staff! Applying for an RA begins
with information session activities held this October. Online
applications are available on October 10. Tell your son to
contact his RA for more specific information.
RA information
sessions are generally held on each campus. Students must
have and maintain a 2.7 GPA, have no disciplinary action,
have lived on campus for two semesters and successfully complete
ECD220 (two-hour course addressing working with peers, listening
skills, etc.) in order to be eligible. The process is competitive,
but every year we need at least 60 people (we employ nearly
200 RAs). So, we encourage emerging student leaders to apply.
Your son's RA or RD (Residence Director) can give him more
specific information about the process, deadlines, etc.

the halls, but if your student wishes to have their items
engraved, he or she can bring them by the police department
anytime M-F 8-5PM.

Question:Tue

My daughter took 2 years of Latin in High School. She was
told a language was a requirement for some majors that she
was considering. She decided not to continue with Latin. Because
of this, she did not take the assessment test. She enrolled
in FLS 101. The FLS 101 professor announced that some would
not get credit for the class. She emailed her adviser since
she was not sure what the professor meant. The adviser told
her to schedule a meeting, which was for the following week.
By this time, my daughter did not want to drop the class and
add a new one because she felt she would have missed too much.
She, therefore, did not discuss this with the adviser. Would
you be able to explain if FLS 101 is for credit or not.

Great
question! However not an easy answer. The reason for this
is because, pending the major that your daughter chooses to
pursue, the FLS 101 could possibly count as a "free elective"
- which will count for credit! So FLS 101 could count for
credit pending the students selection of major. The reason
your daughter did not have to take the foreign language placement
test was because she was looking to attempt a new foreign
language - in turn you would start from the bottom/introductory
course.

In the last segment a weekly calendar is mentioned, for_students,
but when I tried to locate this to share with my student, all
I could locate was the schedule for welcome week. Could you
please provide the full web address for the listing of weekly
activities that was mentioned? Thank you. |
|
Response:
The Online Student Handbook features daily, weekly, and monthly
event and activity information for students. Be sure to click
"Today" and "This week" on the homepage
for the most current information. A month-to-month calendar
is available by clicking on the "Student Event Calendar"
on the left navigation bar.
