Greetings! This edition of Hello NC State Parents! will be the last issue of the email newsletter for the 2011-2012 academic year. You will receive an “Early Fall” issue before classes start August 16, that will cover important information for the upcoming academic year.
Many things on campus are winding down. Students are likely preparing for final tests, projects and papers to submit in their classes. Summer vacations are on the horizon, which may be a chance for students to reflect on the year and find energy to tackle the new academic year.
As always, NC State continues to be a thriving and growing community. NC State celebrates its 125th birthday this year with a yearlong celebration of events and activities to recognize our accomplishments and envision the future. We kicked off the celebration with a birthday party in April at which Chancellor Woodson surprised the crowd with a personal rousing rendition of the “Red & White” song on guitar - a now not-so-secret talent he possesses! Wolfpack fever was high this spring as the men’s basketball team, with new coach Mark Gottfried, made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament! Pack fans supported the team from all over the country and felt great pride in the team’s success. It’s definitely an exciting time to be part of the Wolfpack!
As a new member of the Wolfpack, I want to introduce myself. I started as the Assistant Director of the Office of Parents & Families Services at the end of February. I moved to Raleigh after working with parents and family members at The University of Alabama for the past 2 ½ years. I fell in love with living in North Carolina while completing my master’s degree at UNCG and jumped at the opportunity to move back to this great state. I am very excited to be joining the Parents & Families Services staff at NC State and building relationships with many of you as you interact with our office. If there’s anything I can do to support your student or you, please let me know. I’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to shoot me an email at jlcriswe@ncsu.edu.
It certainly is a great time to be a part of the Wolfpack, and we hope that you’ll find some time this summer to re-energize and re-connect with your son or daughter. I wish each of you a wonderful summer on behalf of our staff!
Jessica Criswell, M.Ed.

Money Matters
Tuition: Estimated expenses for the Fall 2012 Semester tuition and fee amounts are pending approval and are subject to change. Estimated amounts are available at the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid’s website.
A Note about Distance Education Courses: The Office of Parents & Families Services has received several calls recently with questions about Distance Education Courses and the associated fees. It is important to note that tuition and fees for Distance Education (DE) courses are calculated on a per-credit-hour basis. This is in addition to any tuition and fees for on-campus courses your student may be taking. DE courses are identified by a section number of 600 or higher in MyPack Portal. Go to Distance Education for more information.
Billing: The University Cashier's Office would like to remind families that billing for Fall 2012 will begin in early July, and that the university bills electronically. An email notification from e_bill@ncsu.edu will be sent to each student's NC State Unity email address telling him or her that the bill is available online via MyPACK Portal. Fall bills are due August 1, 2012.
To ensure you, as a parent or guardian, receive billing notices, please have your student log into MyPACK Portal and complete the parental access process; so you may view, print and pay your student's bill online and receive e-mail billing notifications. Please have your student check to be sure your access is complete and not in "pending" status.
Payment Plan: The University Cashier's Office offers a monthly payment plan option for tuition, room, meal plan and insurance expenses. For a modest one-time fee, the Monthly Payment Plan spreads each semester's educational expenses (excluding books) over a 5-month period. For Fall 2012 expenses, the first payment is due June 1, 2012, but you may register for the program until August 1, 2012. Once students receive their bill from the University, parents may need to adjust the tuition payment plan budget so that it covers all the charges on the account and make further adjustments if charges change. For more information about the Monthly Payment Plan and to register, please contact Tuition Management Services at (800) 356-8329 or visit the Cashier's Office website.
Payments: Please note that the Cashier's Office does not accept payments on campus. You may pay online through MyPack Portal by electronic withdrawal from a checking or savings account (e-check). There is no fee to use electronic withdrawals (ACH) from a checking or savings account. You may also pay online with a credit/debit card (excluding Visa). A 2% transaction fee is charged on all credit or debit card payments.
Go to the University Cashier's Office website for more information.

Medication Drop-Off – Saturday, April 28th 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
North Carolina State University Student Health Services and University Police are joining the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Take Back Initiative to encourage everyone to remove expired and unused medications from their home.
The focus of this event is to reduce eco-toxicity caused by flushing medicines down the toilet or putting them in the trash, to prevent accidental child poisoning and to remove the temptation for people to experiment with prescription drugs. Labels should be left on bottles for drug identification purposes, but they will be removed at the site to protect your privacy.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place behind the Student Health Center located at 2815 Cates Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27695.
Please contact Stephanie Pomeroy at (919)513.3276 if you have any questions.
