Parents & Families
Weekend 2006
Over
2000 students, parents, and family members participated in
Parents & Families Weekend 2006. Many families got an early
start on the weekend by participating in Family Food Favorites
and the Wolfpack Family Album Exhibit. University Dining invited
parents to submit their son's or daughter's favorite recipes
from home and featured the dishes during Sunday Brunch at Fountain
Dining Hall. Many families shared their favorite Wolfpack photo
memories for a picture display at Saturday's pre-game event.
Over
800 people kicked off the weekend with big laughs attending
the weekend's headliner, Second City Touring Company. Sponsored
by the Union Activities Board, the sold out show featured hilarious
satire and improvisation from the comedy world's rising stars.
Others chose to start the weekend off with a quite dinner out
with their student at Damon's Grill.
A
sunny September evening was the perfect setting for the Parents & Families
Weekend pre-game
party on Saturday. Families enjoyed a BBQ and fried chicken
buffet, souvenir Parents & Families Association car flags,
airbrush tattoos, caricatures, and the sights and sounds of
the Wolfpack Fan Zone prior to the big win over the Boston
College Eagles.
During
the game, the University honored all families by recognizing
an outstanding NC State family. Chancellor James Oblinger presented
the family of Jessica Chaplin with the 2006
Family of the Year Award during a field presentation between
the 3rd & 4th quarters.
Special
thanks to the many families who returned to campus the next
day for Service Sunday. Over 50 parents, students, and staff
volunteered for the annual student-family
service project. Volunteers worked to improve the landscaping
around Tucker, Bowen, Metcalf and Carroll residence halls installing
over 100 shrubs, perennials, and spreading over 75 cubic feet
of mulch. A commemorative marker identifies the location as
the 2006 Student-Family Planting Project. The project is made
possible through a partnership with the Center for Student
Leadership, Ethics & Public Service, University Housing,
and Grounds Management.
The
Chaplains' Cooperative Ministry helped wrap up the weekend
with an interfaith service to give thanks for all NC State
families.
