Q.What meal plan options are available for my student?

A. Students may choose one of four programs: 10 meals, 12 meals, 15 meals or 7 dinners. For those students who seldom miss a meal, the best choice is the Any 15-meals program, which will provide for 15 of the 19 meals served each week. If your student never eats breakfast and will be gone most weekends, the Any 10-meals program is more suitable. Students should analyze their eating habits and select the plan that best suits their needs. Statistically speaking, the plan most often chosen is the Any 12-meals program. Board Bucks are used to supplement the cost of meals at eateries other than Fountain Dining Hall, get snacks and drinks in between meals, and stock up on sundries and other items from the convenience stores. Meal plans and Board Bucks can be purchased at the West Dunn building on Dan Allen Drive.

Q. Are the dining halls open to all students?

A. Yes. University Dining offers a variety of places for students to eat. Students can partake of the all-you-can-eat opportunities at Fountain Dining Hall or enjoy the convenience and variety at our many on-campus fast food eateries. For a change of pace, there's our new Wolves' Den sports restaurant. There may be times when eating at Fountain Dining Hall isn't convenient. University Dining's strategically located fast food eateries, and even its new sports restaurant, add variety to your student's dining choices and allow him/her to grab something on the go. All locations, many of which are national franchise brands, provide quick service and high quality food. Case Dining Hall, located on East Campus, is primarily for athletes and students residing in residence halls located on East Campus.
Only students assigned to eat meals in Case Dining Hall may do so because of limited seating space. Most students participating in dining programs through University Dining will be assigned to the Fountain Dining Hall facilities.

Q.When/where can my student get his/her Dining Card ?

A. Students will receive an All-Campus card, good for dining and other services when they attend orientation. Once a student is registered, he/she may also obtain the card from the All-Campus Network located in the West Dunn Building on Dan Allen Drive.

Q.How does the AllCampus Card work?

A. The AllCampus Network is a cash debit system that is free of charge to all NC State students. Students can decide how much to put into their AllCampus account (minimum of $50 to open an account) and can be added to at any time.
The AllCampus account may be used to make purchases at all University Dining locations, at the NCSU Student Bookstore for books and supplies as well as for laundry. Money on the AllCampus Card is rolled over yearly. Should your student withdraw from school, a full refund of any unused AllCampus funds will be issued, minus a small processing fee.

Q.Does unused meal plan/Board Bucks money roll over to the next year or get refunded?

A. No. Students may eat all they want and never leave the dining hall hungry because enough food is prepared to feed every student who comes through our doors. This doesn't mean, however, that we don't realize that there are going to be times when students are simply unable to use the full number of meals in their selected meal plan in a given week.
In fact, we have studied this situation for years and have determined that statistically speaking, students will probably miss an average of two meals per week. Therefore meal plans are priced based on the number of meals we know students will eat, not on the number of meals they are eligible to eat. For example, for the Any 10-meal-plan, the cost is based on the fact that your student will probably only eat eight. So if he/she eats all meals in a week, your student is actually eating a couple of meals free. Board Bucks can be carried forward from the fall semester to the spring semester, but the balance will not satisfy your requirement to select a Board Bucks level for the spring.
For example, if your student chooses 300 Board Bucks in the fall and has 50 left over at the end of the semester, he/she could roll those over to the spring semester. They may then select another level of Board Bucks, say, 200, giving a combined balance of 250 for the spring. The spring discount, however, would be figured on 200 Board Bucks, not 250. If your student is running out of Board Bucks, he/she can purchase the exact amount he/she thinks they will need for the rest of the semester by going to the West Dunn Building on Dan Allen Drive. Board Bucks should be used by the end of the spring semester as they cannot be refunded at the end of the academic year.
