Q.How can I get my student records including grades and schedules?

A. Student grades, as well as other educational records are confidential under federal law. (http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/ncsulegal/stupriv.htm)
Parents are allowed to obtain copies of their son's or daughter's grades in the following circumstances:

1. When the student is financially dependent (i.e., receives more than 50% of his or her support) from the parent(s). A copy of the parent's most recent federal tax return (showing the student is claimed as a dependent) must be delivered to the Registrar, along with a request for copies of the student's grades. OR

2. When the student consents. A signed, dated consent from the student, stating that his or her grades may be disclosed to the parents (name and mailing or e-mail address), must be delivered to the Registrar. The student is allowed to revoke the consent at any time.

Q. Why aren't grades mailed to students?

A. There are now faster, less costly and more convenient ways to access grades, and most major institutions have discontinued sending grades home. Students may now access their grades by calling the toll-free number,
(877) 694-7233, or utilizing the on-line TRACS system located at http://www2.ncsu.edu/ncsu/reg_records/. Students may also obtain their grades personally or request a copy to be sent home by calling
(919) 515-2572 or visiting Registration and Records at 1000 Harris Hall.
