Any student, living on or off campus, may be subject to search by law enforcement officials under a number of circumstances. A search may be conducted with permission of the lessee, with a search warrant, and in some instances without a search warrant. In addition, note that if an illegal substance is found in a "common area" of the suite or apartment, the student may be charged with unlawful possession even if the substance seized belongs to the suitemate or roommate.
