African American Symposium
and Native American Symposium

Multicultural Student Affairs invites students to attend these special supplements to New Student Orientation to gain valuable insight into campus life from the perspective or our African American or Native American faculty, staff and students.  New students will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of self, develop transitional strategies for academic success and begin building their personal networks of support.  The Symposium is an introduction to a variety of exciting academic and cultural experiences, which will challenge your minds.  It’s a chance to learn about NC State University’s diverse academic disciplines, offerings that push you beyond the ordinary by encouraging participation in independent study, major research projects, special seminars, scholars programs and forums. It is also a sampling of State’s cultural and social opportunities. Students attending a symposium will move in early to their residence hall rooms.

The Alumni Association invites incoming freshmen and transfer students who have a parent or grandparent who is an NC State alumnus/na to lunch. Take a break from moving in to enjoy barbecue and all the fixin’s, along with NC State ice cream. We’ll have a special program that includes Chancellor James L. Oblinger; Tom Stafford, vice chancellor for Student Affairs; Student Body President Jay Dawkins and more. The “Power Sound of the South,” the NC State Marching Band, will drop by to raise everyone’s spirits. And we’ll conclude our program with a special “pinning” ceremony. This event is specifically designed to recognize those families who make NC State a family tradition.

New Student Orientation

The Student Media of North Carolina State University includes the Technician, a daily newspaper, WKNC fm 88.1, a 25,000-watt radio station operating 24 hours a day, the Agromeck yearbook, the Windhover literary magazine and The Nubian Message, a weekly newspaper. Kick off a great year with a chance to find your involvement niche at the organization fair, welcomes from key campus leaders, fun games, your first pep rally, and a spirit activity that includes EVERYONE in the place. Bestselling Author Da Chen will be our featured speaker as he relates his stories of going to college in China after the Cultural Revolution. He will also be on hand to sign (in calligraphy) students’ copies of his Summer Reading book, Sounds of the River. Here’s the schedule:

NCSU Libraries' Open House: Get Smarter!

Come to the NCSU Libraries' Open House and learn how we can help you succeed at your studies. You'll be able to tour through the Libraries, visiting stations and participating in activities that will make you comfortable and efficient in using our spaces and resources.  Explore the Learning Commons, with its mix of study spaces and technology; visit the Digital Media Lab, where you can create your own digital projects; and find out how to get help online 24-hours a day.  Come on by for a fun look at all the things you can do in the Libraries, while enjoying treats and maybe a turn on one of our gaming systems.

Get the inside scoop for computing on campus!
Learn what your Unity account is and how to take advantage of all the power it gives you.  This session, led by staff from the Office of Information Technology, will show you how to:

  • retrieve or forward your Unity email
  • manage SPAM

  • access your files from off-campus
  • purchase discounted software and much more!

In the traditional Capstone event to Wolfpack Welcome Week, NC State volunteers will be working on a project with “Stop Hunger Now." 1,750 volunteers will help us reach our goal of bagging 400,000 meals as part of the Triangle Million Meals event.  Food will go to feed the hungry around the globe.  Learn more about SERVICE NC STATE by clicking here.
